This post is irrevocably late but I hope it is not irredeemably late. For, along with an apology, it carries the scent of a new endeavor. From this day, February 6, I am starting a photoblog to complement this blog. I intend to upload one photo every day, and I hope it offers decent snapshots of life in Finland, Lappeenranta, and LUT.
As it happens, this photoblog has a bit of an adventurous history. I had intended to begin it on January 1, 2012 and wanted it to last an exact year. A year in Finland was my idea. With this noble thought, I went outside to capture some photos on January 1, 2012, and as it happened, had a lot of fun catching snowflakes on my hand and tongue…But, unfortunately, this wonderful experience was followed by a traumatic one: the snowfall became more intense, the lens cap fell from my hands and became wet; I wanted to dry it and so ran under a tree with a tempting smooth patch with no snow; smooth ground in winter means icy layer; and so, an ignorant and hasty I fell right into the sly ice, that hid a puddle, with an almighty splash, plunging the camera into the water and drowning it. I was too close to my apartment for any serious damages to me (except a wet and rather cold and sinking feeling!), and fortunately, two pretty anxious weeks of keeping the camera inside a bowl full of rice (rice absorbs moisture) worked. The biggest damage was to my desires: the photoblog ended up being delayed by more than a month…
Today, I begin with the last photograph that was taken before the accident. And so, presenting images from the land of saunas and snow…
